What Is Marketing? From Selling to Connecting

An image showing the difference between selling and marketing

Lesson 1

What Is Marketing?

Welcome to Module 4: Marketing!

You've already learned how to Shop & Share, Invite & Activate, Duplicate & Grow, and Lead. Now it's time to learn how to get your business in front of more people.

Marketing is what helps people discover you, understand what you offer, and become interested enough to start a conversation.

And here's an important distinction:

Selling is asking for the sale. Marketing is creating the interest that makes the sale possible.

What Is Marketing?

Marketing is the process of getting the right message, product or opportunity in front of the right people at the right time.

As a Table Charm Business Builder, marketing can include:

  • ⭐️  Sharing products with potential customers
  • ⭐️  Posting useful content on WhatsApp or social media
  • ⭐️  Showing people how products can solve everyday needs
  • ⭐️  Sharing your business journey
  • ⭐️  Starting conversations
  • ⭐️  Following up with interested people
  • ⭐️  Inviting people to learn more about the business
  • ⭐️  Using digital tools to reach more people

Marketing doesn't always mean saying:

“Buy this!”

Sometimes it's simply:

“Did you know this product can help with...?”

Or:

“Here's something useful I discovered today.”

Or even:

“If you're looking for a way to earn extra income, I'd love to show you how this works.”

Every useful interaction can become a marketing opportunity.

Marketing vs. Selling

Marketing and selling work together, but they are not the same thing.

Marketing Selling
Creates awareness Asks for the sale
Gets attention Helps the customer make a decision
Builds interest Converts interest into a purchase
Starts conversations Completes the transaction
Builds relationships Serves the customer's immediate need
Can reach many people Usually happens one customer at a time

Think of it this way:

Marketing opens the door. Selling helps the customer walk through it.

If nobody knows about your products or business, there may be nobody to sell to.

That's why marketing activity needs to become part of your regular business routine.

Why People Need to Know, Like and Trust You

People don't buy from businesses simply because a product exists.

Often, they first need to feel comfortable with the person they're dealing with.

This is where the Know → Like → Trust principle becomes important.

Know

People need to know:

  • ⭐️  Who you are
  • ⭐️  What you offer
  • ⭐️  What products or services you share
  • ⭐️  How they can contact you

If people don't know you exist, they can't become your customers.

Like

People are more comfortable doing business with someone whose communication they enjoy.

That doesn't mean you need to become someone you're not.

Be:

  • ⭐️  Helpful
  • ⭐️  Friendly
  • ⭐️  Consistent
  • ⭐️  Genuine
  • ⭐️  Positive
  • ⭐️  Interested in people's needs

Trust

Trust develops over time.

People want to know that you will:

  • ⭐️  Give them accurate information
  • ⭐️  Respond when they contact you
  • ⭐️  Treat them respectfully
  • ⭐️  Follow through on what you say
  • ⭐️  Be honest about products and the business opportunity

Trust is not built in one post. It's built through consistent actions.

The Role of a Business Builder as a Marketer

As a Business Builder, you are not simply waiting for customers to find you.

You become the person who creates awareness.

Your role is to help people discover:

Products → Solutions → Your Business → The Opportunity

You don't have to be a professional marketer.

You simply need to learn how to consistently:

Share → Start Conversations → Follow Up → Serve → Repeat

Your phone can become one of your most useful marketing tools.

Your WhatsApp Status can introduce products.

Your social media can create awareness.

Your conversations can uncover needs.

Your follow-up can turn interest into customers.

And your customer service can turn customers into repeat customers and referrals.

Marketing Is Not About Spamming People

One of the biggest mistakes a new Business Builder can make is thinking:

“I need to post something every day so people will buy.”

Marketing is much bigger than that.

Instead of constantly saying:

“Buy! Buy! Buy!”

Think:

“How can I be useful?”

  • ✔  Educate.
  • ✔  Demonstrate.
  • ✔  Share.
  • ✔  Ask questions.
  • ✔  Solve problems.
  • ✔  Tell stories.
  • ✔  Show products in everyday use.
  • ✔  Celebrate customer experiences.
  • ✔  Create curiosity.

Then give people an easy way to take the next step.

Good marketing creates interest. Great marketing creates conversations.

Your Marketing Mindset

From today, start looking at everyday situations differently.

When someone mentions a problem, ask yourself:

“Do we have a product that could help?”

When someone asks where they can find something, think:

“Could I help them find it through my business?”

When someone tells you they need extra income, think:

“Could this person benefit from learning about the opportunity?”

Marketing begins when you start noticing needs and connecting people with solutions.

Your Action Step

Before moving to the next lesson, answer these questions:

  1. What products do I currently feel comfortable sharing?
  2. Who could benefit from these products?
  3. Which three people could I start a genuine conversation with this week?
  4. What useful information could I share on my WhatsApp Status this week?

Don't worry about making everything perfect.

Start sharing. Start conversations. Start learning.

Your marketing skills will grow through practice.

Remember

Marketing is not simply about selling products.

  • ●  It's about creating awareness
  • ●  building relationships
  • ●  solving problems
  • ●  and making it easier for people to discover what you offer.

Your journey starts with:

Know → Like → Trust → Connect → Serve → Grow
