Content That Gets Attention: Stop the Scroll, Start the Conversation

 Lesson 5

Content That Gets Attention

You've learned where to market.

Now it's time to focus on what to say.

Because being on WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok or another social platform is only the beginning.

The real question is:

“What can I post that makes someone stop scrolling, pay attention and want to know more?”

That's where content comes in.

What Is Content?

Content is anything you create or share to communicate with your audience.

It can be:

  • ✲  A photo
  • ✲  A video
  • ✲  A written post
  • ✲  A question
  • ✲  A helpful tip
  • ✲  A product feature
  • ✲  A customer experience
  • ✲  A personal story
  • ✲  A poll
  • ✲  A short explanation
  • ✲  An invitation or call to action

Content is how you communicate your message to the people you want to reach.

And here's something important:

Not every piece of content needs to sell something.

  • ➡  Some content creates awareness.
  • ➡  Some creates interest.
  • ➡  Some builds trust.
  • ➡  Some starts conversations.
  • ➡  And some eventually leads to a sale.

The First Job of Your Content: Get Attention

Social media is crowded.

People scroll quickly.

Your content may be competing with:

  • ⚽  Friends and family
  • ⚽  Entertainment
  • ⚽  News
  • ⚽  Other businesses
  • ⚽  Influencers
  • ⚽  Advertisements
  • ⚽  Videos
  • ⚽  Hundreds of other posts

So your first challenge isn't necessarily to make a sale.

Your first challenge is to make someone stop.

This is often called a hook.

A hook gives someone a reason to pause and see what comes next.

What Is a Hook?

A hook is the opening part of your content that captures attention.

Compare these:

⛝  “New household products available.”

with:

☑  “Are you still using the same kitchen solution you've had for years?”

Or:

⛝  “Here is our latest product.”

with:

☑  “I didn't realise how useful this little product could be until I tried it.”

Or:

⛝  “Looking for extra income?”

with:

☑  “What if your everyday shopping could also introduce you to a business opportunity?”

The second examples create curiosity.

They make people want to know what comes next.

Five Ways to Get Attention

You don't have to be loud or controversial to create engaging content.

Try these five approaches.

1. Ask a Question

Questions naturally encourage people to think.

Examples:

“What's the one household product you can't live without?”

“Would you rather save time or save money?”

“What's your biggest challenge when shopping for household products?”

2. Solve a Problem

People pay attention when you help them solve something.

For example:

“Three simple ways to make your kitchen routine easier.”

“Here's a simple tip for keeping your household essentials organised.”

Your product can then become part of the solution.

3. Create Curiosity

Give people a reason to want the answer.

“I wish I'd known this before I started shopping this way…”

“There's a reason I keep this product in my home.”

“This is one of those products you don't appreciate until you need it.”

Don't reveal everything immediately.

Give people a reason to continue watching or reading.

4. Tell a Story

Stories make content feel human.

Instead of simply saying:

“This product is useful.”

Tell people why you found it useful.

For example:

“I was looking for something that would make this everyday task easier, and then I discovered…”

Your story doesn't have to be dramatic.

Everyday experiences can make excellent content.

5. Show, Don't Just Tell

If you're marketing a product, demonstrate it whenever possible.

Instead of:

“This is a great product.”

Show:

  • ☑  How it looks
  • ☑  How it works
  • ☑  How you use it
  • ☑  What problem it addresses
  • ☑  What makes it useful

A demonstration can be more powerful than a description.

Don't Turn Your Profile Into a Catalogue

Remember the lesson from Social Media Marketing:

Product. Product. Product. Product. Product.

People can quickly become tired of seeing nothing but sales posts.

Instead, create a content mix.

Content Type What It Does
Helpful tip Provides value
Product spotlight Creates product awareness
Demonstration Shows how something works
Question Starts conversations
Personal story Builds connection
Customer-focused content Builds trust
Educational content Builds credibility
Opportunity post Creates business awareness

This makes your social-media presence feel more like a community and resource than a catalogue.

Use the 4E Content Formula

Here's a simple framework you can use when you're stuck for ideas:

Educate → Entertain → Engage → Encourage

Educate

Teach something useful.

“Did you know…?”

Entertain

Make people smile, laugh or feel something.

A funny situation, relatable moment or light-hearted video.

Engage

Give people something to respond to.

“Which one would you choose?”

Encourage

Motivate people to take action.

“If you've been thinking about starting something new, perhaps it's time to take the first step.”

Not every post needs all four.

But using different types keeps your content fresh.

Your Content Should Sound Like You

One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to sound like a professional advertisement.

Your content doesn't have to say:

“Dear valued customer, we are delighted to announce…”

People want to hear from a person.

Write the way you naturally speak.

Instead of:

“This innovative household solution provides exceptional convenience.”

You could say:

“I didn't expect this little product to make such a difference!”

Your personality is part of your personal brand.

Don't sound like a billboard. Sound like yourself.

Speak to One Person

Here's another useful trick.

When creating a post, don't imagine you're talking to thousands of people.

Imagine you're talking to one customer.

Ask yourself:

“What would I say to this person if they were standing in front of me?”

This often makes your content sound more natural.

Instead of:

“Our customers can enjoy a wide range of household products…”

Try:

“If you're looking for something practical for your home, let me show you what I found.”

Much more personal.

The Simple Content Formula

When you're creating a post, try:

HOOK → VALUE → CALL TO ACTION

Hook

Get attention.

Value

Give them something useful, interesting or entertaining.

Call to Action

Tell them what they can do next.

For example:

“Still struggling to keep your kitchen organised?”

“Here are three simple things that can make your daily routine easier…”

“Want to see the products I use? Send me a message.”

Simple.

Don't Forget the Call to Action

Sometimes people are interested but don't know what to do next.

Give them a clear next step.

Try:

“Send me a message if you'd like more information.”

“Which one would you choose?”

“Would you like me to show you the options?”

“Comment below and tell me what you think.”

“Message me if you're looking for something similar.”

The call to action doesn't always have to be:

"BUY NOW!"

Sometimes the best next step is simply:

"START A CONVERSATION."

Video Doesn't Have to Be Perfect

If you're using TikTok, Facebook Reels or WhatsApp Status, don't wait until you have expensive equipment.

Your phone is enough to start.

You can create:

  • ✲  Short product demonstrations
  • ✲  Quick tips
  • ✲  “Did you know?” videos
  • ✲  Before-and-after demonstrations where appropriate
  • ✲  Customer-focused explanations
  • ✲  Behind-the-scenes content
  • ✲  Short motivational/business videos
  • ✲  Answer-a-question videos

And remember your existing TikTok account.

You don't have to abandon the motivation content that helped you build your audience.

You can gradually move from:

Motivation ➡ Mindset  ➡ Taking Action  ➡ Business Journey  ➡ Products & Solutions

That allows your content to evolve naturally.

Let AI Help You Create Content

You don't have to stare at a blank screen thinking:

“What am I going to post today?”

AI can help you brainstorm:

  • ✲  Post ideas
  • ✲  Hooks
  • ✲  Captions
  • ✲  Questions
  • ✲  Short video scripts
  • ✲  Content calendars
  • ✲  Product explanations
  • ✲  Different versions of the same message

For example, you could ask:

“Give me five WhatsApp Status ideas for a Table Charm household product. Make them helpful rather than salesy.”

Then choose an idea and add your own personality and experience.

AI can help you create.

You provide the human connection.

Create a Content Bank

Here's a simple trick that can make marketing much easier.

Whenever you think of an idea, write it down.

Create a list on your phone called:

“Content Ideas”

Add things like:

  • ➡  Questions customers ask
  • ➡  Products you want to demonstrate
  • ➡  Problems people mention
  • ➡  Useful tips
  • ➡  Funny situations
  • ➡  Customer feedback
  • ➡  Stories from your business journey
  • ➡  Questions you could ask your audience

Then, when you need something to post, you don't have to start from zero.

You already have ideas waiting.

Avoid These Content Mistakes

✖ Posting without a purpose

Before posting, ask:

“Why am I sharing this?”

✖  Making every post a sales pitch

Give value too.

✖  Copying everyone else

Learn from others, but let your personality come through.

✖  Making exaggerated claims

Protect your credibility.

✖  Trying to be perfect

Perfect content that never gets posted doesn't help your business.

✖  Giving up too quickly

One post that gets little engagement doesn't mean your marketing isn't working.

Learn. Adjust. Try again.

Your Content Challenge

For the next 7 days, create one piece of content each day.

Try a different format each day:

Day Challenge
Monday Share a helpful tip
Tuesday Spotlight a product
Wednesday Ask a question
Thursday Demonstrate something
Friday Share a story
Saturday Share customer-focused content
Sunday Share a reminder or opportunity

Don't worry about getting thousands of views.

Your goal is to practice creating content that connects with people.

Remember

Great marketing content doesn't always shout:

“BUY THIS!”

Sometimes it says:

“Here's something useful.”

Sometimes:

“Have you ever wondered…?”

Sometimes:

“Let me show you…”

And sometimes:

“I've been where you are, and here's what I learned.”

Your content should make people want to stop, think, learn, smile, respond or discover more.

Because when you consistently create content that provides value, you're not just posting.

You're building relationships.

Hook ➡ Value ➡ Conversation ➡ Relationship ➡ Growth
